Register as a Dentist

Register as a dentist in Singapore. There are three different types. Full registration, temporary registration, and conditional registration.

Full Registration

A dentist with Full Registeration

A fully registered dentist in Singapore may work freely anywhere in the country.

Full registration

Full Registration is available for:

(i) A Singaporean with a dental degree;
or
(ii) qualifications recognized by the Council demonstrating special knowledge, skill, and adequate practice in any particular branch of dentistry;

There is an online registration that will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Before you commence make sure all the soft copies of the supporting documents are ready

Register online at the official site

(i) Copy of the basic dental qualification (and additional qualifications, if any

(ii) Copy of letter from issuing authorities on all undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications (if certificate of dental qualifications are not available at time of application).

(iii)Copy of letter of offer of employment from prospective employer in Singapore.

(iv)Copy of certificate or letter of fitness to practice dentistry from a local Medical Practitioner.

(v)Copy of local laboratory report with information on Hep B antibody level and antigen status.

(vi)One passport-size photograph (Size of photograph is 400 X 514 pixels).

(vii)Copy of identity card/passport.

(viii)Foreign applications are required to submit a copy of their State/Regional Board Certificate as part of registration requirements. Applicant must pass the relevant State/Regional Board licensing examination in the country which they attained their basic dental degree.

Fees

$300 (non-refundable) for Full Registrations
There will be no refund and no pro-ration of fee.

Mode of payment
The fee may be paid through online e-payment.

Processing time for application
At least 2 weeks starting from date when:

  • All necessary documents are received and duly verified with relevant authorities
  • When payment for above-mentioned fees are received
  • Please submit the application along with the necessary supporting documents. Documents formats should be in JPEG (.jpeg) or PDF (.pdf) format and file size should be smaller than 1MB.
  • For overseas qualification, SDC’s secretariat will conduct source verification on qualification with awarding body before it is forwarded to Committee for its assessment
  • To assist in verification, you are required to download Authorisation for Release of Information Forms A and B from the SDC’s website. Kindly upload forms A and B in your online application
  • Conditional Registration

    A dentist under conditional registration

    Required to work for a specified period under the supervision of a fully registered dentist approved by the Council.

    Conditional registration

    Must satisfy either Category A or Category B

    Category A:

    (i) holds a degree from a university specified in the Schedule [PDF, 207KB] or any other degree which is, in the opinion of
    the Council, not lower in standing than a degree specified in the Schedule;

    (ii) graduates from recognised dental schools listed in the Schedule must pass the relevant State/Regional
    Board licensing examination in the country which they attained their basic dental degree. For any country
    that imposes such licensing conditions on its own dental graduates, the corresponding conditions will also
    be required for registration to practise in Singapore;

    With effect from 1 Jan 2029, a foreign trained dentist who holds a degree from a university specific in the revised lists of Schools will have to take and pass the Qualifying Examination to be considered for conditional registration to practice dentistry in Singapore.

    (iii) has been selected for employment in Singapore as a dentist in any hospital or other institution or dental practice approved by the Council; and

    (iv) satisfies the Council that he has the knowledge and skill and has acquired the experience which is necessary for practice as a dentist.

    Category B:

    (i) has sat and passed qualifying examination (please refer to eligibility for application to sit for qualifying examination)

    (v) Copy of certificate of good standing from the licensing authority in the last country of practice (with validity period of 6 months or less).

    *Council requires original Certificate of Good Standing to be sent directly from the dental council/licensing authority to SDC.

    (vi) Curriculum vitae (including postgraduate experience and testimonials on postgraduate experience or names and addresses of referees).

    (vii)Two letters of character reference from two referees who should be members of the teaching staff of Faculty of Dentistry in the University, College or institution where the applicant has received his training in dentistry or any two references from medical/dental professionals.

    (viii) Copy of certificate or letter of fitness to practice dentistry from a local Medical Practitioner.

    (ix) Copy of local laboratory report with information on Hep B antibody level and antigen status.

    (x) One passport-size photograph (Size of photograph is 400 X 514 pixels).

    (xi) Copy of identity card/passport.

    Temporary Registration

    Dentist under temporary registration is only allowed to practise for a short period of time.

    Temporary registration

    Criteria for Temporary Registration:

    (i) Who is in Singapore for the purpose of teaching, research or postgraduate study in dentistry under such training scheme as may be approved by the Council for that purpose;

    (ii) Who possesses dental knowledge, experience and skill which the Council considers to be of international standing or are such as to have special value to the people of Singapore;

    or

    (iii) Who is not otherwise entitled to be registered as a dentist under this Act but who, in the opinion of the Council, possesses other qualifications which are adequate for the purposes of registration under this Act

    (v)Copy of certificate of good standing from the licensing authority in the last country of practice (with validity period of 6 months or less). **Council requires original Certificate of Good Standing to be sent directly from the dental council/licensing authority to SDC.

    (vi) Curriculum vitae (including postgraduate experience and testimonials on postgraduate experience or names and addresses of referees). * only for Visiting Clinicians

    (vii)Two letters of character reference from two referees who should be members of the teaching staff of Faculty of Dentistry in the University, College or institution where the applicant has received his training in dentistry or any two references from medical/dental professionals.

    (viii) Copy of certificate or letter of fitness to practice dentistry from a local Medical Practitioner.

    (ix) Copy of local laboratory report with information on Hep B antibody level and antigen status.

    (x) One passport-size photograph (Size of photograph is 400 X 514 pixels)

    (xi) Original letter of undertaking from sponsor/employer stating purpose of application and period of registration required

    (xi) Copy of identity card/passport.

    (xii) Foreign applications are required to submit a copy of their State/Regional Board Certificate as part of registration requirements. Applicant must pass the relevant State/Regional Board licensing examination in the country which they attained their basic dental degree.
